Seasons Change Soil
In the garden of life, which are you? A weed or a sunflower? How far do your roots go in your garden and who is your gardener? You or God? Where is your heart in which soil?
Stop for a second and re-read the title. Seasons change soil. So, let us break down the title word for word. Seasons, well there are many, aren't there? Fall, spring, summer, and winter! And you are probably curious why that matters. Well, aren't there different seasons that we each go through in life? A tragedy, a celebration, a storm, or even a dry moment like a drought, right? Today, even in the hard moments I ask God what are you trying to teach me in this season of life. How are you growing me this season, instead of why! Why is such a complicated word well, I won't get answers until I am with Him in Heaven. Seasons help build my trust in the only true gardener of life who gives living water to this soul of mine and gives me a purpose to live. Without seasons I would stay stagnant and not be able to grow which leads me to the next word, change.
Change is a word I used to fear because I never thought I would have enough courage to. I never realized God grants courage to change, but I had to open my eyes to what I needed to change. I also could not do it alone and needed help from like-minded people who could give nutrients to this soul of mine, God knew this and sent angels before me who would not only lift me in prayer but also hold my hand on my journey. And lastly, soil, think about a garden. What do you need before you even plant the seed? You need soil, and before writing this I never knew how many different soils there are. It reminded me how many different types of people there are and the different characteristics of each. It was overwhelming and opened my mind to how very detailed our God is and how every detail plays a role in life. He knows all of our characteristics and how to grow us. The soil is the main ingredient why the plant either grows or dies, it provides the nutrients, water, and air which is vital for healthy growth. So, let me ask you a question now, are you a weed or a sunflower? Such a simple question, but let it hit deep, which are you? A weed? What do you mean? A plant in the wrong place which is undesirable and not wanted creates a chemical that is toxic to other plants. It’s deadly over time, it can face rough seasons and not die because really it’s toxic to itself but we don’t think like that unless we look deep. Symbolism is being seen in nature, it’s how God speaks, so what about a sunflower? It’s easy to grow and can handle extreme heat, needs a majority of water in the beginning, and then, later on, doesn’t need much just sunlight to shine it’s beauty, it faces the opposite of darkness because it loves the light and knows where it’s roots are but please don’t cut it because then it will slowly die, but here is the very important detail of a sunflower did you know the flower itself has many tiny flowers inside itself like up to 1000 to 4000 talk about a ripple effect after planting a seed, God is speaking, do you hear which one sounds like you? Do you smell the aroma of Christ or the poison of the world? Let me ask you another question, where are your roots planted? In Christ or in you?
Stop for a second and think about the crowd you hang with the most, weeds or sunflowers? Weeds can live through a lot of different seasons and produce a toxic chemical, is the crowd you are around healthy for your mental health or draining? Or do you smell the aroma of Christ and hang with sunflowers who turn their face toward the sun and not the darkness? But be careful if you are a sunflower, do not allow your roots to be cut and fall into the temptation of the world, because it is not fruitful. And next time you look at a sunflower be reminded of the ripple effect of just one seed and how God can multiply His beauty by just one flower. I dare you to open your eyes to the symbolism of life and God's nature. Which are you?
Let me ask you one last question, which water are you absorbing to grow, the world's or the living water? Soil means different outcomes for each season and do you get enough water? Such a simple question but all plants need water and God is our Gardener. He knew we would need water, not only water but the Living Water which is Jesus Christ, Himself who gives us life to grow and become who He has called us to be. Just remember, most of our seasons in life show the growth of our spiritual garden, time takes time but remember where your roots are planted.
